Putrada Ekadashi Vrat Story (Katha)

Once there lived a king named Suketuman who was very much worried for not having a child. He was awestruck and was dejected. He was wandering in a forest. There he met a group of sages called the Vishwadevas. Upon the timely words of the Vishwadevas about observing the Ekadashi Vrat on the Pushya month, he along with his wife observed the Vrat accordingly with utmost faith and devotion. They had their set of challenges, but emerged successful in observing Ekadashi Vrat. Eventually they were blessed with a progeny by the supreme grace of Sri Maha Vishnu. Those who are looking for progeny can observe this auspicious Putrada Ekadashi Vrat. Those who are very much concerned about the welfare of their children could also observe this Ekadashi Vrat for their well-being.

What to do on Putrada Ekadashi?

Observe Sankalpa on Dashami day
Skip meals on the night of Dashami (the previous day of Ekadashi)
Based on health grounds if required can have light food in the form of milk or fruits
Wake up before Sunrise on Ekadashi day
Perform Pooja to Sri Maha Vishnu
Recite or listen to Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Stotra thrice
Strictly avoid consuming rice, grains and all other sorts of food
However milk can be consumed since it has no dosha
Try not to sleep during the Ekadashi day
Try to be in the thought of Sri Maha Vishnu and your Sankalpa of being blessed with a progeny
Practice celibacy
